Ideal age for children to enter primary school

Many mistakes are often made by parents, for example, by enrolling children in school without seeing whether the child is ready to get acquainted with the school environment or not.

The Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia issued a decree that the elementary school is a unit of formal education that organizes general education at the level of basic education.

1. Ideal Age to Enter Primary School

According to Permendikbud No. 44 of 2019, the ideal age for children entering primary school for child registration is between 7 and 12 years old, or at least 6 years old on July 1st.

If the child has a high potential of intelligence and is psychologically ready for classes, then he is allowed to enter primary school at the age of at least 5 years 6 months on July 1. Of course, by providing a letter of recommendation from a professional psychologist or teachers' council.

Why? When a child turns 7 years old, his mental and emotional state stabilizes and he easily accepts the learning process at school.

2. High concentration range

The attention span of school-age children is higher, making children more focused on learning. A mother's child can concentrate on listening to the teacher's explanations for about 1 hour in class.

The ability and curiosity of children as they grow up also cause them to show a strong competitive spirit.

Mom can concentrate the children as much as possible, ensuring a balanced intake of energy and nutrition for the needs of the brain, before leaving for school.

3. Independence of thought

At this time, children learn to lead their daily lives independently and responsibly. You can also see that your child can follow the teacher's instructions and is ready to receive lessons at school.

An educational environment that encourages the potential of students can stimulate the development of children's independence. In this way, children can think more maturely by adopting disciplined behaviors and becoming more organized.

4. Psychological readiness

Psychologically, children at the age of 7 are ready to perceive the learning process. If you send your child to elementary school too soon, their emotional maturity and independence will usually not be at their maximum.

As parents, mom and dad should continue to accompany their children so that they can develop well psychologically.

5. Ability to process information

The development of children at the age of 7 is able to communicate with their teachers, both by receiving and by listening to lessons taught in the classroom. Children's interaction with the environment becomes wider with a large vocabulary.

The mother can invite the child to interact and let him talk about what happened, such as what he learned in school, how he lived his day, and other questions.

This is an explanation for the age of children entering primary school. Make sure your child is physically and cognitively prepared to support their learning progress. Do not rush to send your child to primary school, enroll your child in primary school if you feel that you have entered the ideal age.
